Yaara Grossmark is a doctoral candidate at the Technion’s Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning, where she studies ecosystem-based marine spatial planning. In particular, her research focuses on how to incorporate human-wildlife interactions into marine spatial planning to promote the conservation of marine megafauna. Her research explores the adaptability of terrestrial mitigation strategies for marine environments and how citizen science can inform decisionmakers on human-wildlife interaction and promote conservation.

Yaara is the COO of Sharks in Israel, an NGO devoted to the conservation of sharks and rays in Israel. She is a member of the steering committee of the MECO (Mediterranean Elasmobranch Citizen Observation) project, a Mediterranean collaboration dedicated to collecting citizen observation of sharks and rays through social media, and a representative in the student body of The Israeli Association for Aquatic Sciences (IAAS).

Yaara holds a master’s degree in marine biology (M.Sc.) from the Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences at Haifa University and a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Marine Sciences from the Faculty of Marine Sciences at Ruppin Academic Center.
